Homemade marshmallows. The good news: they taste just like regular marshmallows! The bad news: they taste just like regular marshmallows! And when you subject yourself to that level of stickiness, and a temperamental candy thermometer, and the brutal realization that marshmallows are basically gelatin plus 5 different kinds of sugar, you kind of want them to taste better than regular marshmallows. Still, it was fun to try them once!

We went on a road trip to the American Girl store in Atlanta so that Elizabeth could pick out a doll for her 6th birthday. She chose the 2011 Girl of the Year, Kanani (a Hawaiian doll). Here's Elizabeth with Kanani and her dog, Barksee.

Project 365 - day 7

This is a picture of Elizabeth walking the new dog that Diane, Sal and Alex gave her for Christmas. She loooooooves this dog. It is a Fur Real Friend, and as the name would suggest, it walks and does other dog-like things, just like a real dog. When I asked Elizabeth the dog's name, she looked at me like I was a little dense and said "She came with a name! Firfee." I thought that was a somewhat unusual manufacturer-issued name, but didn't think much of it until later, when I noticed the dog's collar. It says "FRF" (Fur Real Friends) or, as Elizabeth calls her, "Firfee." I love that girl.

the lost lost tooth

Ever wonder what happens when you lose a tooth, and then lose the tooth before you can tuck it safely under your pillow for the tooth fairy to find? Well, a tooth note, of course. It is too early to tell for sure, but Elizabeth is showing signs of having a chronic "lose the lost tooth" problem. She's lost two of her first three lost teeth (I found one -- her first lost tooth -- after tearing the sofa apart). But she lost this third tooth at school, and the teacher of 18 kindergartners presumably had other things to do that prevented her from dropping everything to hunt for a tiny pearly white tooth. So she gave Elizabeth this note, and Elizabeth explained the situation to the Tooth Fairy:



{Dear Tooth Fairy, I lost my tooth and I lost my tooth!}

She put the note under her pillow, and to our great relief, the TF came anyway.

Project 365 - Day 6

I believe that Caroline went 96 straight hours over Christmas dressed as a princess of some persuasion. If you look closely (which you'll have to, since there's a little helmet chop here), you'll see that she put the Belle headband/crown over her bike helmet. The bare midriff look is a nice touch, too. Free to be you and me, that's our motto around here.
